Ibrahim brothers extradited back to Sydney

Michael and Fadi Ibrahim have been extradited back to Sydney after being arrested in Dubai.

Two brothers of Sydney nightclub identity John Ibrahim have arrived in Australia after being extradited from Dubai over their alleged roles in an international drug-smuggling conspiracy.

Michael and Fadi Ibrahim arrived in Sydney on Saturday night after they were arrested in Dubai early last month.

Australian Federal Police and NSW officers conducted a series of raids across Sydney, arresting 18 people in total in both Australia and Dubai including John Ibrahim's model girlfriend Sarah Budge and his son Daniel.

In a statement, the AFP said four men were extradited.

The year-long operation also netted underworld figures Mustapha Dib, Ahmad "Rock" Ahmad and Koder Jomaa.

Police allege the syndicate had plans to import two tonnes of illicit drugs into Australia.

The haul, which included 1.8 tonnes of MDMA and was estimated to be worth $810 million, was seized by authorities in the Netherlands in July.

AFP Assistant Commissioner Neil Gaughan said the extraditions demonstrated the reach of Australian authorities around the world.

"The Dubai authorities have offered an unprecedented level of support to help facilitate these operations and ensure these extraditions have run smoothly," he said in a statement.

The four men face charges including conspiracy to import a commercial quantity of a border controlled drug, dealing in the proceeds of crime and possession of imported tobacco.

They'll appear i n Sydney's Central Local Court on Monday.

Daniel Ibrahim is accused of helping transfer more than $2.25 million to buy smuggled tobacco.

Both he and Budge, who faces firearms and ammunition charges, received bail last month.

Authorities had 60 days to extradite the men arrested in Dubai, however both AFP and Dubai authorities have previously refused to confirm any details about when or how the operation would be completed.
