Zahid: Hisham should remain as Umno VP uncontested
KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has suggested that Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein remains uncontested as one of the three Umno vice-presidents at the next party polls.
The acting Umno deputy-president said this would allow the party to focus on its preparation for the 14th General Election instead of internal polls.
He said that there was an agreement over one of the three vice-president posts.
"At the moment there is only one sole incumbent, we have accepted that it should be given to Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein," he told a press conference at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) on Friday.
Dr Ahmad Zahid said that this meant that the people in the top three positions within Umno would remain the same.
Earlier, a motion by Umno Youth for the top two party posts to be uncontested in the party election next year was accepted at the Umno General Assembly.
Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said he was touched by the move and said that it was part of a democratic process brought by grassroots delegates.
"The top two posts should not be contested because full attention should be given towards the general election," he said.He added the approval of the motion showed that delegates fully understood the situation and the need to focus on the general election. Related NewsSource: Google News
